wabi-sabi

This renovation featured a unique combination of styles: Japanese Zen Garden mixed with a Pacific Northwest Plant palette, all for a client from Australia. With a full redesign of the shady gardens, we provided the client with the calming sanctuary he desired with the planting plan as a nod to all his inspirations. 

We installed a true wabi-sabi mosaic of local basalt flagstone and columnar slabs, constructed a custom black bamboo trash enclosure, and built a yakisugi (shou sugi ban) meditation bench tucked into the corner. It was such an enjoyable collaboration between client, designer and contractor and the project embodies all the good energy found throughout the process.
